I have had my Bananas out for about 3 weeks although I stood ready to put them in the garage if the temps got close to freezing.

I had originally planned to put them in the ground this spring and keep a heated shelter around them for the winter. My experience overwintering Palms has made me reconsider. While I have a month or so to make up my mind, I think that I will put them in 24" pots now, leave them out over summer and put them under light in the basement to keep them growing over winter. Our spring weather is too erratic to make keeping bananas out side feasible. We need to start venting heat as early as the beginning of March but need overnight protection from frost as late as Mid May.

I had winds gusting to 80 Kms come from an unusual direction and shred my M. Basjoo and my dwarf cavendish. The Rajapuris were shorter with smaller leaves and sturdier stems. They sustained little damage. All are alive but ugly.
