It wouldn't hurt to try to put it in the ground and see if it grows!

Of course you probably already did since October 2nd!
We are new to transplanting, too, and found that when we separated the pup, if we used a flat edged shovel, placed it between the mother and the pup, and then scooped the shovel AWAY from the mother, it preserved the pup's roots growing on the outside edge. I don't know if that makes sense.

One of the pups we were trying to transplant did die, and that was because we scooped the shovel from outside to inside and broke off the roots growing from the outside edge of the pup.
