Gabe said they were basically followed by some Thai people on one of their last expeditions and they grabbed specimens and started TCing them. He knows this because they are using the Names Gabes group gave them in a paper written about the plants gathered on that expedition.
FYI, Gabe was referring to the variegated Nono when he wrote this and not the variegated Florida. The variegated Florida has been around commercially long before Gabe's first expedition. The quickest way of distinguishing between young TC Florida and Nono is to put them in sunlight. Sunlight causes the white on the leaves of the Nono to turn pink.

We were hoping to be able to find a way to commercially release it strategically and have the proceeds go back to the communities where it comes from, or to support banana conservation in PNG, but unfortunately some people followed our tracks from our reports and went to collect the plants and superseded us.
