People plant Blue Java because they read it tastes like vanilla but after harvesting they realize it's a low quality fruit when compared to the other cultivars available on the island, even the AAB genotype Pome subgroup which includes the 'Dwarf Brazilian' aka 'Fake Apple' is considered low quality in the West Indies. These cold hardy ABB bananas are more desirable to growers in areas that struggle with growing the AAA or AA types.
