Those look cool kinda mint looking I would try any variegated. As for the AEAE question. My buddy owns Plantdelights nursery in Raleigh NC. His property is in a valley aka microclimate. A few years ago I don’t remember the winters but for atleast one winter I can remember they kept a huge AEAE alive but cutting it down. Making a cage around it and filling up the cage with shredded leaves. It came back next spring but winter after that never came back. So they can take some cold.
