Tim,

Hey, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think you can get dw. cavendish to survive in ground where you live. I live south of Houston, TX and mine sometimes die back to the ground each winter. Also, they will definitely need to be placed further away from the bench than you have them. Dw. Cavendish still get to be around 6'-9' tall. Hopefully these details will help you out some. I see you're new to the group; welcome! Stick around here and you'll learn alot.
