I agree. Looks like you just nipped it at tip of the bud! My Grandmother purposely cut down some of the tall bananas that she had in her yard so that it will do exactly that. Bloom and fruit at a manageable height. Of course she knows exactly when to cut them from when she was a child. Wish I asked her back when we visited her then when to do it. At that time it was just a novelty for us. Given the time of year your plant is blooming, you have all spring, summer, and fall to let it ripen!
