Sounds like root rot. If you have any corm left, take them out of the soil you have them in. Get some new STERILE pots and soil, and drench the corms in a fungicide mix for a while, making sure to cut what rotten roots you can find as much as possible. Your chances are slim, but I have made it work before. I used RD-20 as a fungicide, but I'm not sure even if it's commercially available (we have it in the greenhouse on campus). 2 tsp./gal. works best. Good luck.
