If using a grow light, be certain it's not "barely there." You'll have to spend more money, but you need one that is as bright as daylight and can hang from the ceiling for your plants. Otherwise, they'll "leg up," and get really spindly, especially if growing veggies. I have mine on a timer and start it an hour before daylight and a few hours after, as I have little direct sun. Winter sun is also less bright and strong, so I'd recommend running the light all day to boost the natural weak light. Keep it on for 16-18 hours to mimic summer cycles, and make sure you have at least 6 hours of darkness. Plants need the dark, just like we do.
