Question A question about removing pups....

Now I’ve been doing some research on dealing with pups. I have seen lots of conflicting ideas as to what to do. Now I had heard that if you want to be able to get fruit off the plant you have to remove all pups b/c it takes away from the energy from the mother plant. On the other hand I just read somewhere that someone said to try and leave some pups on the mother plant so you can build a bigger, better mat. I am bit confused. Remove all pups or leave some? Which is better for the mother plant? Thanks in advance!
