Default Limp leaves/stems

This is my first summer with a masu basjoo in NJ. I noticed twice throughout the summer it put out leaves that were thinner than the others, and the stem of them creased and went limp as soon as it uncurled. Is it normal to get some bad leaves like this once in a while? Or could something be causing that? Thanks.
