The corm is the white potato looking thing. IT IS the banana plant. the pstem is just a growing limb & a collection of leaves. The soil line is where the pstem turns white at the bottom. It doesn't hurt if part of the corm is above the soil.
With ambient temps of 90 plus, the radiant sun temp on the leaf is 105 - 115 deg F plus. Shading or light water misting will cool the plant.
