They would work .. I do not know how many chill hours are required though.

Snowdrops are first up in spring( Jan -Feb) and endure single digit temps, frost and snow.
They naturalize and clump well and the whitetail deer do not eat them.
They might be sold at big box stores in your area.

Might cost a can of spray paint, some nuts and bolts and some rust.
