- Many plant retailers source their plants from plant distributors, who in turn buy from horticultural wholesale nurseries. There are of course retailers who buy directly from wholesale nurseries.
- Most retailers use common names provided by their suppliers, but on occasion some falsely use names of plants in high demand.
- With bananas as with some other plants of desire, many common names in different languages have emerged for the same plant.
- And so it has occurred (not just with Ice Cream) that a wholesale grower chose a name for a plant that already existed as a synonym for another plant.
