I live on a sand hill, beautiful yellow colored sand the ground water is approximately 9 ft down. not so sure right now after Irma. my ph is low because of this. have to put lime down around the bananas.

but water does not race down the sand absorbs some of it. if you dig down after a good rain the sand will be moist. cow manure and compost helps to retain the water just a bit longer. and grass cuttings keeps the top moist longer in the hot afternoon sun. watering once a day is good enough. twice a day may be better I do not know I have a lot of plants covering a large area.
