Default Re: Banana corm disaster!

Did you cut into the corm to look for tunneling? After weevils or nematodes do their work, fungi and other things eat the rest away... I am having similar issues and haven't found a certain cause yet. I had tunnels in my corm, but another I had was beginning to hollow out like yours. I trimmed them up and soaked in bleach water then replanted. The first one I treated in such a way seems to be recovering. It's too early to tell with the second one. Funny side note I learned while researching banana specific nematodes... Gros Michel, the one variety which seems extra susceptible to everything, is said to be resistant. Go figure... Most the rest of that list is made up of seeded varieties.
See here for more detailed info...
I guess I am now a banana surgeon... Any ideas what it is?
Here is the first one... It had a big hole forming on the bottom of the corm, so it was getting hollow. I now wish I had cut it like I did the Paggi, but it seems to be doing well so far....

Maybe try putting a cup of bleach in about 3 gallons of water and soak it for half an hour, then replant...

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.
