Default Re: M. sanguinea, M. violascens flowers

Bigdog is right, the second banana is not M. violascens. M. violascens is a Callimusa species and the one in the photo is a Rhodochlamys, perhaps the name was mixed up from M. violacea. I don't know what the red leaf piscute from Davids site is about, I've always wondered if it was just a mix up in names too because M. violascens has green leaves.

As for M. sanguinea, the species has not been seen in a very long time, no verified living plant of it is known. There are hybrids of it (such as 'African Red'), but the pure species only has 3 fingers per hand at most. The one in the photo appears to be some hybrid Rhodochlamys, who knows what the parents are as there are so many of them out there like this.
