Could have been from a seed that fell in the pot, usually I have to clip the seeds with nail clippers, file, etc. to get canna seed to germinate in a couple of days soaking in water. But this year they are popping up all over the flower beds from seeds that fell last year. So it looks like a year of weathering outdoors will do it also, ice included.
