Unless you're really anal about appearance, leave old leaves where they are; they'll disappear without you doing a darned thing when they're ready to let go. (I have recently planted bananas which suffered in pots for a few years in addition to repotting a plantain that was dying but is now perking up. All 3 look awful except all have new leaves so the old stuff stays mainly because cutting them off is really difficult and I'm very lazy.)
