In my experience, cramped growing conditions are the best inducers of pups. For example, to propagate several pups from another: I'd plant it in a 15 gallon pot outside in the summer (or indoors under summer-like conditions) and feed it on a regular basis. When the roots of the corm hit the pot walls, rhizomes will soon follow and pups shortly after that.
