Normally I cut straight down into the umbilical that connects the mother plant to the pup. After it's severed, I wiggle the pup and pull it out. Sometimes I have to lift upward with the iron bar under the corm or wiggle it some more to break some stubborn roots. I haven't had a single pup die with this method when performed successfully. This is my tool of choice. 72 inches, and weighs around 17 lbs.



I need to sharpen mine, it's gotten so dull after digging through corm and tough soil.
