How long does it take Musa velutina to germinate?
I recently planted some Musa velutina seeds. I soaked them in distilled water for 24 hours before planting.
The planting medium I used was shredded spaghnum moss which is supposed to be anti-damping off.
I am using small Ziploc baggies which I can open or close.
I am keeping them open to give ventilation.
I had a question.
The temperature is not very warm this time of year where I live.
Would it be ok to put the baggies in a south facing window?
I am a little worried about cooking the inside of the bags. So far ive done it a few days when we had some 70 degree full sunny weather days and the medium never dried out yet so is it safe to assume if it doesn't dry the inside of the bags are not getting too hot?
The packet said to not exclude light as it will help with germination.
Ive read some of the forum posts on here and some say M. velutina takes about 6 weeks for the first sprout.
Ive germinated tropical plants before using spaghnum moss like Psychotria spp. and they took 2-4 months to germinate.
Ive also germinated Tabernaemontana and Tabernanthe iboga which take 4-6 weeks for germination.
I hope bananas are less tricky than palms.
