Default Growing Zone/Bambusa Oldhamii

I am in question about my growing zone here along the Gulf Coast and get different zone quotes from different sites. The best I can figure is 8b or 9a. I'm about 4 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and about 200 yds from a freshwater creek so I seem to benefit from those advantages. I wanted to try Bambusa Oldhamii and the min. zone is 9a. Should I try?
