Down below I have shown the "full sun" section of that 5m long stretch between patio and the
neighbour's fence. I thought, that I might as well show the deep shadow part of the strip, even
though it does not include a canna, which, of course, would not survive without the sun:

The plants are from left: A Hosta Guacamole, a Cimicifuga and a Ligularia Przewalskii. The latter two
have been "raided" by cutting off rhizomes which I transplanted elsewhere.
In the transition between the two sections there is a Goat's Beard and a Hosta Krossa Regal, which
I selected, because it is supposedly (one of) the tallest hosta(s). It is now in its second year and all of
8" high. I have two more in pots in the shady part my "tropical" section and they are doing just as
miserably. Entirely different environments, other Hostas thriving in both sections, but the one which
should be the biggest turned out to be the tiniest. - Go figure!
