Just as a minor correction it was 0-0-60 and it was $800/ton and you have to purchase a ton at a time. That being said I throw out a cup of fertilizer between the mats about once every three months. I can't over stress the need to have your soil tested every once in a while. Some soils may have plenty of potash and phosphorus in them.

Reason was the land he is leasing has been used for tomatoes and peppers for so long that the Nitrogen and the P residue are very high already.
