Basjoos never need to be "cut back" anywhere in Florida. I'm 400 miles north of you and my basjoos never lose there trunks. Most winters they grow between frosts and don't lose their petioles. If you did it for cosmetic reasons then that is different.

These past two winters are record winters for Florida but you are 10A almost long term. Do dips to 9A happen? Sure. But that doesn't make you 9A. I know there are fruiting Ice Creams and Manzanos in Cape Coral right now, even after two record winters.
