Well, it ain't exactly "sprouting"...
. ..but I think it is interesting nontheless
Changing of the guard (-flowers)
The roses may look a bit bedraggled, but they are the last of 2010 and have been outside in -4^ C (25^F) before I brought them in here on Nov. 18.
Also on Nov. 18, in order to prepare for a table display of greens for a pre-Christmas get together, I clipped a small twig off my Winter Jasmine, to gauge the timing for the opening of the blossoms, and I had the first fully opened blossom on Nov. 21, just 3 days later, representing the first life blooms of 2011 here in Hardiness Zone 6. The photo was taken to day, Nov. 24.
Winter Jasmine is supposed to flower in late winter, usually late January through March, but can be forced to early bloom indoors. I have always used these pretty little life plants together with evergreens and Wandering Jews in X-mas displays, but this is the earliest I have ever tried it.
Best,
Olaf
