Well, it is pretty much a direct translation from French of 'Grand Nain', could be that. 'Grand Nain' is called such because it is a large version of 'Dwarf Cavendish', characterized by having persistent male flowers and bracts. This also easily differentiates it from 'Williams' which is more or less a shorter 'Giant Cavendish'. 'Williams' is nearly identical to 'Grand Nain' except the bracts and male flowers fall off like normal.
