Default hello

hello. this is my first time here. i am growing a banana tree in a large pot. this way i can move it into the garage to store in the winter and i dont have to dig it up each year and replant. this will be the 3rd summer. so far so good. BUT new growth gets higher and higher on the stalk leaving the bottom bare. my question is can i cut the stalk off and how far up from bottom, so that i wont have leaves 10 foot in the air sitting in a pot?
